Tobacconist Tip #447
All wrapper leaves have their center stem completely removed but filler leaves only have half. After the stem is removed from a wrapper leaf, there are two remaining halves that are mirror images of each other. Each half of the leaf will wrap one cigar-sometimes two cigars if it is large enough. The bottom, veiny side of the leaf will face inward, touching the binder. While the smoother, top side of the leaf will be outside of the cigar. The shape of the half0leaf, coupled with the smooth side needing to face outward, means that cigars get rolled both right-to-left and left-to-right, hence, cigar wrapping/rolling is an 'ambidextrous' art!
